Logo Rough Draft

For my logo rough draft, I tried to push myself to use new techniques I hadn’t used before. I created a recycle logo by using the pen, and chose a different color besides green so that it wasn’t the typical recycle logo. I’m not sure what color I want to use in my final logo, but I’d like to steer away from the well-known green. I used the “Envelop Distort” tool to combine the shapes I created with the text I created. Since it was my first time using this technique, I didn’t master it, but Im going to play around with it some more to master it for my final logo.

I also didn’t realize that you couldn’t change the color of the text after you envelope distort it, or if you can, I couldn’t figure out how to. For my final logo, I am going to try to change the color of the text before I envelope distort it and see if that works.

For my final logo, I want to change the color of the words “Thrifting the World” so that they are different than “Can Save.” This way, my brand logo will be able to stick out from my brand motto. I was inspired to use the recycle symbol as part of my logo because one of the main reasons I thrift is to recycle old clothes and reduce the production of new clothes and fast fashion. I thought it would be a cool idea to morph the words into the logo to add a uniqueness to my symbol. However, I need to figure out how to make the text look exactly how I want to inside the shapes.

Although my draft isn’t perfect and exactly how I want it to be, I think that I have a good start, and that it will be easy to fix it up to be the way I want it to be.

  1. Marley,

Your logo looks really great so far! The design really stood out as soon as I saw it. I noticed in your written blog post for your logo you said you wanted to push yourself in using different tools. I can definitely tell you put some time into your logo researching new tools to perfect your design. One thing I would suggest for your final draft would be finding a way to add some sort of clothing symbol to really make it clear your topic is centered around thrifting. I think with just the recycle symbol people make initially think it is representing just simply recycling. Maybe you could even just change the color of the word “thrifting” to make it really stand out. I also would suggest maybe finding a font that is a little easier to read. However, I don’t think this is a huge issue because I really like how you fit the words inside the recycle sign. Overall your design is coming along really well!

  2. Hi Marley,

To start off, I think the theme of your blog is amazing and so incredibly interesting. Not to sound like a creep, but I stalked your blog a little bit. I lived in Japan where thrifting, recycling and redesigning clothing is so common, and I forgot how much I enjoyed looking at the new creations. Anyways, back to your design. I really like the pastel purple you used and how you outlined it with a darker purple. I also like the little slogan, “Thrifting can save the world,” that you used. However, I find it incredibly difficult to read. I think maybe not warping it as much or cleaning up the warping as well as thinning out the letters a little might help. I also think maybe changing the font color to grey might help and make the text seem less overwhelming. Overall, I like your draft and how you essentially recycled the recycling image.

  3. Hello Marley, you really did a good job trying to utilize new techniques to match your sketch with your logo design. The first thing I noticed was the recycle type of logo. With that observation, I knew we were recycling something. I think it was a good choice to stay away from the usual green color which represents recycling. Although you may even try more than two colors in the design, or even brighter colors, which I believe you mentioned. One suggestion I would make is to have a picture of what you are recycling somewhere within the logo. I read your information and understand it is clothing, so maybe pants or a shirt, some type of clothing. This will also lead you to try and master more techniques.
I like your idea to change the writing to different colors, this may also make it easier to read. I don’t know if it is the font style or the color, but it was a little difficult to read the first word, thrifting. Overall the logo was comprehensive, I knew you were recycling something, but just didn’t know what.
    Thanks

  4. Overall, I think that my logo has a lot of work that needs to be done. I ultimately might even end up scratching the whole thing. I tried for hours to figure out how to warp the text so that it was easy to read, but as my peers mentioned, it just doesn’t look right. Everyone agreed that there needed to be more contrast, and a few people commented that adding something that will allude to the fact that I am specifically thrifting clothing would help. One thing that people liked was the creativeness and that I pushed myself to try something new, but ultimately, I’m not sure if I’ll end up keeping the design the same. I also think I might need to create a logo that will be effective even when scaled to a much smaller portion.
