For my final logo project, I had to start fresh. I just had to.
For my rough draft logo, I was trying to use new methods that I didn’t know how to use (envelope distort), and it just wasn’t warping the text the way I wanted it to. Many of my peers agreed with the fact that my logo was unreadable and therefore confusing.
I used the pen tool to create the shapes within the earth, and closed them by mimicking the outline of the earth. This allowed me to fill the shapes green. I then created a circle around these shapes, filled it blue, and arranged it to be behind the green shapes.
Since I originally wanted to change the color of “Thrift the World” so that it was different from “ing Can Save,” I kept the text simple and readable, and warped it around a circle that I created around the earth.
One aspect I really liked in my rough draft logo was the recycle symbol. I decided to refrain from making it the main focus, and shrunk down my original design down to the size of the font I created, while also making it black. I erased the ‘O’ in world and replaced it with this recycle symbol. I think that this works well because although it is minimal, it still ties together the correlation between recycling and saving the world.
My peers also suggested that I add some sort of symbol to clarify I’m talking about clothing. Personally, I feel like that would have been a good idea if I would have stuck to my original design, but since I changed it up, I don’t think it’s as needed anymore. Now, my text is easier to read and in different colors, which I feel guides the viewer to my message successfully.
One final thing I tried to improve for my final draft was the logo’s scalability. My original idea would’ve been extremely unreadable from afar, but I think this logo could work well both up close and far away.
Although I’m slightly disappointed that I couldn’t figure out a way to make my original design work well, I am still happy with my final logo. I was still able to steer away from the typical logo, without going overboard and making it undesirable to look at.
